Governor Greg Abbott has announced a $2 million grant from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF) to KoMiCo Technology, Inc. The funding will support the expansion of KoMiCo's facility in Round Rock, which specializes in precision cleaning and coatings for semiconductor wafer manufacturing tools. This expansion is expected to create 70 new jobs and result in a $36 million capital investment.
"Texas is leading the American resurgence in semiconductor manufacturing and making strategic investments to secure critical domestic supply chains," stated Governor Abbott. He highlighted KoMiCo's significant investment as a contribution to increased chip production within Texas, reinforcing the state's role in innovation and job creation.
KoMiCo, a subsidiary of KoMiCo Ltd., offers parts cleaning and coating services and sells equipment parts to the semiconductor industry. The company's expansion will add over 40,000 square feet to its Round Rock facility, enhancing clean room capacity and production lines for contamination removal and coating applications crucial for wafer manufacturing tools. This process is vital as even microscopic contaminants can cause defects in wafers.
"KoMiCo is profoundly grateful to the State of Texas for their generous grant supporting the semiconductor manufacturing supply chain," said Sung Soo Jang, CEO of KoMiCo USA. "This investment not only reinforces our industry but also strengthens the technological fabric of our nation."
Senator Sarah Eckhardt expressed her support: "I’m thrilled about this good investment into good jobs helping manufacture good technology."
The TSIF was established under the Texas CHIPS Act signed by Governor Abbott in 2023. It aims to encourage leadership in semiconductor research, design, and manufacturing through programs administered by the Texas CHIPS Office within the Governor’s Economic Development & Tourism Office.
