Governor Abbott appoints members to Texas acupuncture board

Governor Greg Abbott has made appointments to the Texas State Board of Acupuncture Examiners. Ahmed Sheikh, D.O., was appointed, while Elisabeth "Ellee" Carlson, D.A.O.M., and Sheri Davidson were reappointed for terms expiring on January 31, 2031. The board is responsible for licensing, examination, and rulemaking in acupuncture.

Ahmed Sheikh from Frisco serves as the program director at Texoma Medical Center Family Medicine Residency. He holds memberships with the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Texas Academy of Family Physicians. His academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology from the State University of New York College at Geneseo and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Elisabeth "Ellee" Carlson from Garland owns Southwest Acupuncture Clinic and is an active member of the Texas Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. She has a Bachelor of Science in Integrative Biology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a Master of Science in Acupuncture from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago, and a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Pacific College in San Diego.

Sheri Davidson operates Element5 Acupuncture and Wellness in Houston. She is an acupuncturist, health coach, and partakes actively with the Texas Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Her previous affiliations include membership with Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce. She volunteers for Athletes with Disabilities. Davidson's educational achievements comprise a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from the University of Houston, a Master’s degree in Oriental Medicine from the Academy of Oriental Medicine at Austin, along with Integrative Health Coach Certification from Duke Integrative Medicine.

These appointments await Senate confirmation.
