TMEIC Corporation Americas is set to build a new manufacturing facility in Waller County, Texas, Governor Greg Abbott announced. The facility will focus on uninterruptible power supplies and medium voltage drives, with the help of a Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) grant worth $368,838. The project is expected to create 62 jobs initially and bring over $65 million in capital investment to the area.

Governor Abbott praised the investment, stating, "Texas is where advanced manufacturing and innovation in the energy industry intersect to power homes, businesses, and the Texas economy. This $65 million investment by TMEIC in Waller County will create 62 good-paying jobs for hardworking Texans—and that's just the start."

TMEIC Corporation, originating from the industrial systems merger of Toshiba Corporation and Mitsubishi-Electric Corporation in 2003, provides global industrial solutions including automation and motors. President and CEO of TMEIC Corporation Americas, Manmeet S. Bhatia, expressed appreciation for the support from Texas and Waller County, attributing the decision to invest in the region to the pro-business environment and manufacturing ecosystem. He noted, "Collaboration with the State of Texas and Waller County has been instrumental in facilitating our decision to invest in this region."

Waller County Judge Trey Duhon welcomed the project, recognizing TMEIC as a notable partnership between significant Japanese companies. "I also want to thank Governor Abbott's Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office for their help in supporting this great project," Duhon said.

Vince Yokom, Executive Director of the Waller County Economic Development Partnership, described the investment as a major success for the region and the state. Yokom emphasized Governor Abbott's efforts, stating, "It's a strong testament to Governor Abbott's working relationship with the Tokyo Municipal Government and his commitment to supporting local economic development efforts through the Texas Enterprise Fund."

Texas has been a leader in foreign direct investment, with Japan being a significant contributor to job creation through such projects. Governor Abbott's trip to Tokyo in July 2024 and the 2020 agreement between Texas and Tokyo's Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs reflect ongoing efforts to strengthen economic ties.
