Governor Greg Abbott announced the City of Aransas Pass has been designated as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community by Travel Texas. This recognition, in its inaugural year, reflects the community's commitment to utilizing tourism for economic development, increasing job opportunities locally, and attracting both national and international visitors.

"Tourism is critical to both our local and state economies, supporting one in 11 jobs across Texas," stated Governor Abbott. He highlighted that tourism drives more than $193 billion in economic impact annually and supports 1.3 million jobs statewide. Abbott encouraged other Texas communities to pursue this designation to enhance local tourism and job growth.

Travel Texas Director Tim Fennell emphasized Aransas Pass’s position as a gateway to the Gulf Coast. "This designation honors the city’s ongoing efforts to welcome travelers seeking a laid-back coastal experience," he said, noting the city's appeal for outdoor activities like fishing, kayaking, and dolphin spotting.

State Representative Todd Hunter expressed pride in Aransas Pass's efforts, stating, "This designation is not just a recognition of the city’s natural beauty and hospitality, but also a testament to the dedication of its residents and local leaders." He emphasized the economic benefits tourism brings to the area.

City Manager Mary Juarez and County Commissioner Howard J. Gillespie shared their enthusiasm for the recognition. Juarez remarked on the community’s commitment to creating a welcoming environment, while Gillespie described Aransas Pass as "the heart of the Coastal Bend," offering history, beauty, and culture.

The Tourism Friendly Texas Community certification is open to local governments and nonprofit organizations leading tourism promotion efforts. The designation provides opportunities for collaboration, education, and the development of strategies significant to tourism growth.
