Governor Abbott appoints new presiding officer for Brazos County Regional Mobility Authority

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Karl Mooney to serve as the presiding officer of the Brazos County Regional Mobility Authority. This appointment, effective until February 1, 2027, reflects Governor Abbott's effort to enhance transportation infrastructure in Brazos County through the Authority, which collaborates with state transportation leaders.

Karl Mooney, based in College Station, currently serves at Texas A&M University as the director of the general studies program and transition academic programs advising. Previously, he has contributed to the community of College Station as Mayor, City Councilman, and as a member of the Planning and Zoning Committee. Mooney is notably involved with local organizations as the founder’s group chairman of YMCA of the Brazos Valley and the nominating chair of the Sam Houston Council Scouting America. Additionally, he is a choir member at Christ Church. His academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in English Education from Trenton State College, a Master of Arts in Urban Education from Jersey City State College, and a Doctor of Education in Reading from Lehigh University.

The appointment is pending Senate confirmation.
