U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and U.S. Rep. Jodey Arrington recently celebrated the construction of Lubbock's first segment of I-27. The expansion is part of the Ports-to-Plains Corridor, expected to improve transportation and economic growth throughout Texas.

Sen. Cruz noted, “Today is yet another demonstration of the dedication and hard work of Texans. I’m proud to have led the charge in the U.S. Senate to create I-27 — the Ports-to-Plains Corridor. I look forward to seeing more segments completed as we move steadily toward the full construction of this vital artery through Texas.”

Rep. Arrington emphasized the project's significance, stating, “Today’s I-27 signage ceremony in Lubbock marked an important milestone for the Ports-to-Plains Corridor. This critical transportation artery will enhance the future of Rural America and strengthen our nation’s food security and energy dominance. This project is a game-changer for West Texas, generating over $50 billion of economic impact to our great state. I’m proud to have helped lead the effort to establish this federal four-lane highway, and I look forward to continuing our work to strengthen our local economy and open up new markets for our producers.”

The I-27 Numbering Act, signed into law in March 2024, designated the route between Laredo, Texas, and Raton, New Mexico as the future Interstate 27. This designation could lead to increased job opportunities, economic growth, and improved transportation for communities throughout Texas.
