Governor Greg Abbott extended his congratulations to the City of Brownwood for achieving the designation as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community. This recognition, awarded by Travel Texas in its inaugural year, signifies Brownwood's commitment to fostering tourism as an economic strategy, creating local jobs, and attracting visitors from across the nation and globally.

"Tourism is critical to both our local and state economies, supporting one in 11 jobs across Texas," stated Governor Abbott. He emphasized that travelers generate over $193 billion annually, supporting 1.3 million jobs statewide. Abbott encouraged other Texas communities to seek this certification to further boost local tourism and employment.

Tim Fennell, Director of Travel Texas, highlighted Brownwood's unique offerings: "In Brownwood, visitors find a destination where Texas flavors, outdoor adventure, and small-town appeal come together." He described experiences such as dining in a restored train car or enjoying performances in a historic theater.

Senator Phil King expressed pride in Brownwood's achievement: "Brownwood is a welcoming city that offers plenty of outdoor activities and a flourishing downtown district." Representative David Spiller echoed this sentiment, noting that the designation would enhance the city's charm and economic growth.

Mayor Stephen E. Haynes remarked on Brownwood's inviting nature: "From our rich history to our genuine hospitality, we invite travelers to discover all that makes Brownwood feel like home."

Ray Tipton, Director of Economic Development and Tourism Division for the City of Brownwood, stated that this certification reflects their community's dedication to making visitors feel welcome.

The Tourism Friendly Texas Community program supports local governments or non-profits involved in tourism promotion. The benefits include strengthening relationships vital for tourism development and educating leaders about tourism's importance.

Travel Texas aims to market the state as a premier travel destination through the Governor’s Economic Development & Tourism Office.
