U.S. Senator John Cornyn recently recapped his travels across Texas, where he engaged with local communities about the significance of energy independence and the extension of the Trump tax cuts. During his state work period, Cornyn visited several cities including Corpus Christi, Houston, Midland, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin.
Cornyn emphasized the importance of Texas' energy industry during discussions with oil and gas workers. "From Corpus Christi, which is on the Gulf Coast of Texas, [and] Houston, also along the Gulf Coast... to Midland to Dallas to San Antonio, Austin," he said. He highlighted conversations with constituents who praised congressional efforts in supporting these industries.
In Corpus Christi, Cornyn met with energy businesses to discuss the Port of Corpus Christi's role in enhancing America's energy independence. "We had a great discussion about the importance of the Port of Corpus Christi and the product that passes through that port," he stated.
The senator also focused on renewing tax cuts initiated under former President Trump. He met with small business owners in Houston at Southland Hardware and heard from representatives from Empire Tools and Sylvia’s Enchilada Kitchen. They expressed support for extending these tax cuts due to their positive impact on businesses.
Cornyn noted similar sentiments from business owners statewide, including those at Wally’s Burger Express in Austin. "Robert Mayfield... reported that the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act had been very helpful," Cornyn mentioned.
He urged critics to engage directly with constituents regarding their experiences with these policies. "I would encourage the naysayers and our Democratic colleagues to actually talk to real people about what their experience has been," Cornyn remarked.
Cornyn concluded by affirming that the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act has benefited families across various communities by providing employment opportunities and contributing to economic growth.
