Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has amended and renewed a disaster proclamation originally issued on July 8, 2022, concerning exceptional drought conditions affecting several counties in the state. This action was confirmed necessary by the Texas Division of Emergency Management due to the persistence of these conditions.
The renewal of this proclamation declares a disaster in numerous counties across Texas, including Aransas, Atascosa, Bandera, Bastrop, Bee, Bexar, Blanco, Brewster, Burnet, Caldwell, Calhoun, Cameron, Childress, Clay, Collingsworth and many others.
Under Section 418.017 of the Texas Government Code, Governor Abbott authorized using all available state government resources and political subdivisions to address this ongoing disaster. Additionally, Section 418.016 allows for suspending regulatory statutes that might hinder emergency responses necessary to protect life or property during this declared disaster.
Governor Abbott's office will ensure that copies of this proclamation are filed with the relevant authorities as required by law.
The declaration was officially signed by Governor Abbott on March 23rd in Austin. It was attested by Secretary of State Jane Nelson.
