Governor Greg Abbott extended his congratulations to the City of Bowie for achieving the status of a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community. This recognition was awarded by Travel Texas in the program's inaugural year after Bowie completed a comprehensive certification process. The designation underscores Bowie's commitment to using tourism as a strategy for economic growth, job creation, and attracting visitors both nationally and internationally.

"Tourism is critical to both our local and state economies, supporting one in 11 jobs across Texas," said Governor Abbott. "Travelers to and within Texas generate more than $193.8 billion in annual economic impact and support 1.3 million jobs across the state. Every region of this great state offers endless opportunities to experience the natural beauty, rich history, and true Texas hospitality that draws visitors to our communities. I congratulate the City of Bowie and Bowie Community Development on earning this designation. All Texas communities are encouraged to apply to become a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community to further grow local tourism and jobs across our great state."

Tim Fennell, Director of Travel Texas, remarked on Bowie's unique offerings: "In Bowie, the frontier spirit is alive and well, offering visitors a mix of history, outdoor recreation, and community pride." He added that Bowie's new designation strengthens its role in preserving heritage while inviting travelers.

Senator Brent Hagenbuch also expressed his support: "I am pleased to join Governor Abbott in congratulating the City of Bowie on becoming a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community." He emphasized how this recognition will help build infrastructure and attract more visitors.

Representative David Spiller noted that "Bowie is an outstanding community," suggesting that the designation would enhance its charm and economic prospects.

Cindy Roller, Executive Director of Bowie Community Development, highlighted local attractions like the World’s Largest Bowie Knife: "We know how much tourism supports our beautiful community and its economy." She acknowledged support from various entities including Travel Texas.

Jamie Rodden, President of Bowie Community Development Board, mentioned upcoming events such as their annual Chicken and Bread Days Heritage Festival: "We are looking forward to paying homage again to our pioneers who helped make Bowie what it is today with their strength and endurance."

The Tourism Friendly Texas Community program is available for local governments or non-profit organizations leading tourism promotion efforts. Benefits include fostering relationships vital for tourism development and educating leaders about its significance.
