Following a recent nomination hearing by the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Senator John Cornyn of Texas announced his support for Tulsi Gabbard as the Director of National Intelligence under President Trump. In a statement, Cornyn cited the constitutional provision that allows the President to appoint officers with Senate consent.
"Article II, Section 2, Clause 2 provides that the President shall appoint officers with the advice and consent of the Senate," Cornyn stated. He added that after President Trump's decisive election victory, he believes Trump has earned the right to select his own cabinet members unless there are extraordinary circumstances.
Cornyn's endorsement is significant as it reflects support from within Trump's party for Gabbard's nomination to lead national intelligence.
