U.S. Senator John Cornyn from Texas has announced his new role as chair of the U.S. Senate Caucus on International Narcotics Control for the 119th Congress. In a statement, Cornyn emphasized the need for comprehensive strategies to combat narcotics like fentanyl that are affecting communities nationwide.

"Deadly narcotics like fentanyl continue to ravage communities in Texas and across the nation, and an all-of-the-above approach is needed to fully root out these silent killers," Cornyn stated. He aims to address issues such as the supply chain of Chinese precursors, distributors in Latin America, and those financing this trade.

Cornyn has previously held leadership roles within the caucus, serving as chair from 2019-2020 and ranking member from 2021-2022. During his tenure, he contributed to a report on cannabis use's public health implications and organized hearings on international drug trafficking and related issues.
