The City of Austin launched a new livestream podcast for the East Austin community that will focus on bringing together local businesses, the creative community, and Austin culture and provide an online conversation space for Conversations about the African American experience in Austin.
Titled "The Pivot" and hosted by T.J. Owens, program manager for the Economic Development Department’s African American Cultural & Heritage Facility, the livestream will be cast the first and third Wednesday of each month beginning February. "The Pivot" will be available on the African American Cultural and Heritage Facility Facebook page and can be viewed at www.facebook.com/AACHFAustin.
“With the African American Cultural and Heritage Facility inoperable for most of 2020 due to the pandemic, our team sought a way to still serve the community who needs it the most,” Owens said. “'The Pivot' ensures we stay connected to our East Austin neighbors and provides useful information to the community as the pandemic continues.”
The first episode scheduled for Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. will feature a conversation Sharon Mays, owner and CEO of Baby Greens. Mays will discuss how the city helped her successfully pivot her business approach to adapt to COVID-19. Later episodes will feature the History of Black Austin, health and wellness, and the creative and entrepreneurship sectors.
