Chip Roy, currently serving as a U.S. Congressman representing Texas' 21st district, has shared a series of tweets addressing the SAVE Act and its implications on voting processes. Roy, who succeeded Lamar Smith in 2019, has taken to social media to affirm his stance on the SAVE Act, aimed at regulating American elections to ensure they remain exclusive to American citizens.

On April 11, 2025, Rep. Chip Roy's press office tweeted "The SAVE Act will ensure that American elections are ONLY for American citizens!" This underscores the central premise of the legislation, which the representative asserts is designed to guarantee that only U.S. citizens are eligible to participate in elections.

Later that day, another tweet addressed misinformation circulating about the Act. The press office clarified " FALSE: 'The SAVE Act will not allow those who have changed their name to vote' FACT: The SAVE Act MANDATES that processes be in place to handle name changes when proving citizenship. THIS IS FAKE NEWS @HillaryClinton!" This post responds to claims that the Act could potentially disenfranchise individuals, particularly addressing the mention of Hillary Clinton in relation to these claims.

In a subsequent post on April 11, the press office shared a link to an article from The Federalist, stating ".@FDRLST: Leftists’ Claims The SAVE Act Won’t Let Married Women Vote Are An Insult To Their Intelligence." This tweet addresses concerns raised that women who have changed their surnames after marriage might face voting restrictions under the SAVE Act and denies such assertions while sharing a supportive opinion piece.

Chip Roy was born in Bethesda, Maryland, in 1972 and has been residing in Austin. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Virginia in 1994 and later earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas-Austin in 2003.
