Governor Greg Abbott has officially proclaimed April 2025 as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month in Texas. The proclamation encourages Texans to unite in raising awareness on the issue of sexual assault and honoring the courage of survivors both within Texas and nationwide.

During his announcement, Governor Abbott said, "Every person is worthy of respect and protection, especially from acts of sexual violence," emphasizing the state's commitment to prosecuting offenders and acknowledging survivors' strength. "As we work together to prevent sexual assault in our state, may we honor each survivor, raise awareness, and build a future where each Texan can live in safety."

Rose Luna, CEO of the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault, supported the proclamation, stating, “We commend the State of Texas for prioritizing efforts to assist sexual assault survivors and for its commitment to funding and supporting rape crisis centers." Luna highlighted the importance of resources and advocacy available for survivors throughout the state.

Established in 2019, the Governor’s Sexual Assault Survivors’ Task Force (SASTF) plays a crucial role in ensuring a survivor-focused and trauma-informed approach to addressing sexual violence against adults and children across Texas. This task force includes professionals and survivors committed to improving the system for all Texas sexual assault survivors.

Texans are encouraged to honor survivors and support their recovery through the hashtag #SAAPM2025 on social media throughout April. Additional resources for survivors are accessible via the SASTF's website at gov.texas.gov/organization/cjd/sastf-resources.
