Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Bill Harris as the judge of the 62nd Judicial District Court, which serves Delta, Franklin, Hopkins, and Lamar Counties. Harris's term will expire on December 31, 2026, or when a successor is elected and qualified.
William "Bill" Harris currently serves as the judge of the County Court at Law for Lamar County. He is affiliated with several legal organizations including the United States District Courts in the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas and the State Bar of Texas (SBOT). He also participates in the Juvenile Committee for the Texas Center for the Judiciary. Additionally, Harris holds leadership roles as chair of the SBOT Child Protection Law Section and commissioner of the Texas Children's Commission. His community involvement extends to being a board member for both the Lamar County Juvenile Board and East Texas A&M Paralegal Studies Board of Directors. Previously, he served as president of the CCL Judges Association of Texas.
Harris's educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in History and Economics from Midwestern State University, a Master of Science in History from East Texas A&M, and a Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University School of Law.
The appointment requires confirmation by the Senate.
