Texas Governor Greg Abbott has declared March 2025 as Women’s History Month in the state. The proclamation highlights the significant impact women have had on various sectors, including public service, philanthropy, education, and entrepreneurship.
Governor Abbott emphasized the contributions of women who have influenced daily life in Texas, noting their ingenuity and determination. He stated that many women risked their fortunes and reputations to build a prosperous future for the state. "Their accomplishments are a source of pride," he said.
The governor also recognized several notable Texas women for their exceptional contributions. These include Jane Long, Angelina Eberly, Clara Driscoll, Adina de Zavala, Babe Didrikson Zaharias, Oveta Culp Hobby, Mary Kay Ash, Ninfa Laurenzo, and Barbara Jordan.
International Women's Day was first celebrated in 1911 to honor women's roles in society. In 1980, President Carter proclaimed the first week of March as National Women’s History Week. This recognition was expanded by Congress in 1987 to designate March as Women’s History Month.
Governor Abbott encouraged Texans to learn about historical accomplishments by women to inspire future leaders. He urged all residents to observe Women's History Month with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
The official proclamation was signed by Governor Abbott on February 27th, 2025.
