U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, Chairman of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, has announced staff promotions and senior positions for the 119th Congress. The committee oversees a significant portion of the U.S. economy.
Senator Cruz stated: "With jurisdiction over forty percent of the U.S. economy, the Senate Commerce Committee plays a pivotal role in shaping America’s most vital industries. I am honored to serve as the first Texan to lead the Committee as its Chairman and am confident in the dedication of its senior staff to hit the ground running. Together, we will advance meaningful solutions that create jobs, unleash American ingenuity, and ensure the U.S. remains a global leader in modernization across transportation, telecommunications, and technology sectors."
Robert Smith has been promoted to General Counsel for the Committee. Previously serving as Deputy Chief Counsel for Oversight and Investigations, Smith also contributed as Special Counsel during Amy Coney Barrett's Supreme Court nomination process.
Bill Lucia joins as an Economist with experience at both state and federal levels in legislative roles. His background includes work on budget committees within the Senate.
Ryan Cannon steps into his new role as Coalitions and Member Services Advisor after joining as a committee aide in 2023.
The full committee's senior staff includes Brad Grantz continuing as Staff Director with previous experience in banking committees; Nicole Christus remaining Deputy Staff Director with expertise in transportation issues; Duncan Rankin continuing as Senior Policy Advisor following his tenure with Senator Cruz; Melissa Braid maintains her position as Communications Director after holding various communications roles within government offices.
