Chip Roy highlights escalating cartel violence in Mexico

Rep. Chip Roy, serving in the U.S. Congress for Texas' 21st district, has recently highlighted severe issues related to cartel violence in Mexico through a series of tweets. The tweets draw attention to the brutality and far-reaching impact of these criminal organizations.

On February 3, 2025, Rep. Chip Roy Press Office tweeted about a recent incident where "Cartel gunmen left several DISMEMBERED bodies in a Rosario Beach, MX," threatening both rival cartels and the state police chief over territorial disputes. The tweet emphasizes that such acts of violence surpass typical street gang crime. "This type of brutality is BEYOND street gang crime"

In another tweet posted on the same day, Rep. Roy referred to an October 2019 event where "13 Mexican police officers were gunned down in their OWN police station by cartel members using high-caliber weapons and armored vehicles." He criticized the federal government's indecision regarding designating these groups as terrorists despite such attacks. "Yet the federal government continues to hand-wring about whether to designate them as terrorists…"

Further highlighting the issue, Rep. Roy mentioned that "The brutality of these cartels has become so pervasive that these groups have recruited thousands of CHILDREN to carry out murders on their behalf."
