Abbott appoints Brooke Paup as chair of environmental quality commission

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Brooke Paup as the new chair of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Her term will expire on August 31, 2027. The TCEQ is responsible for protecting public health and natural resources in Texas while ensuring sustainable economic development.

Brooke Paup, based in Austin, was initially appointed to the Texas Water Development Board in February 2018. She brings with her 19 years of experience in state government. Her previous roles include director of legislative affairs for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts and several years at the Office of the Attorney General. Paup also served as legislative counsel at the Office of State-Federal Relations in Washington, D.C., during Governor Rick Perry's administration. In 2022, Governor Abbott appointed her to the Environmental Flows Advisory Group.

Paup holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas A&M University and a Juris Doctor from Texas Tech University School of Law. She is actively involved as a council member of the Texas Farm and Ranch Lands Conservation Program and is a member of several organizations including the State Bar of Texas, Junior League, and Symphony League.
