Governor Greg Abbott and incoming U.S. Border Czar Tom Homan spent Thanksgiving serving meals to Texas National Guard soldiers, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers, and other service members involved in Operation Lone Star. The event took place along the border in Eagle Pass and Edinburg.

"You are essential to keep Texas sovereign, secure, and safe," Governor Abbott stated. He praised the efforts of the Texas National Guard and DPS for their role in maintaining law and order. "This mission is critical to our future," he added.

Homan emphasized the importance of border security for national security, stating, "There is unprecedented success in Texas. This is the model we can take across the country." He commended those present as "national heroes" who are safeguarding both Texas and the nation.

The Thanksgiving celebrations were also attended by National Border Patrol Council President Paul Perez, Adjutant General of Texas Major General Thomas Suelzer, DPS Director Steve McCraw, and Texas Border Czar Mike Banks.

Perez expressed gratitude for their protection against various threats: "Everything you have done as troopers and guardsmen has saved lives."

General Suelzer acknowledged their dedication: "Your commitment to securing the border and protecting our communities reflects the highest ideals of the Texas National Guard."

Director McCraw highlighted their sacrifices: “Texas – and America – is safer in part because of the hardworking men and women of the Texas Department of Public Safety.”

Banks noted that events like this bring a sense of home to those serving on Thanksgiving: "It truly is an honor serve those serving Texas."

Afterward, Abbott and Homan received an intelligence briefing on Operation Lone Star's progress from General Suelzer, Director McCraw, and Banks. They concluded with an aerial tour over assets deployed in Eagle Pass aimed at deterring illegal immigration.
