WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Cornyn of Texas has issued a statement following the election results that indicate a Republican majority in the Senate. In his remarks, Cornyn criticized the previous Democratic leadership under Chuck Schumer, attributing various issues to their policies.
"Tonight, the American people have roundly rejected Chuck Schumer and the Senate Democrat majority’s years of disastrous border policies, reckless spending, and failed management that has caused the Senate to lurch from one avoidable crisis to the next," Cornyn stated. He expressed confidence in the new conservative majority's ability to restore the Senate's role within the constitutional framework.
Cornyn highlighted his past experiences as both Whip and a rank-and-file member as informing his understanding of effective governance. "We will restore the important role of Senate committees and reestablish the regular appropriations process," he said. He emphasized improving communication and transparency while involving all members' expertise and opinions.
The senator also pledged to eliminate backroom deals and ensure adequate time for legislative review, debate, and amendment. "As I’ve said, this election is not about us but rather what is best for the conference and the nation," Cornyn remarked. He looks forward to collaborating with President Trump and leveraging the new conservative majority to advance their agenda.
