U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, acknowledged the efforts of his Service Academy Nominations Board following its annual meeting. The board has recommended 40 qualified candidates from Texas for nomination to the nation's military service academies.

Senator Cruz stated, "Texas has a proud tradition of producing exceptional military leaders dedicated to protecting our country and upholding its values. I am proud to nominate 40 outstanding young Texans, with the support of Chairman Birdwell and my Service Academy Nominations Board, to ensure that Texas continues to send its finest to our nation’s military academies."

The board was established by Senator Cruz in 2013 and is composed of alumni from service academies, members of the National Guard and Reserves, active duty and retired military leaders, former senior civilian U.S. Department of Defense officials, and other military supporters from across Texas. Each year, it evaluates hundreds of applicants for the service academies. The current chairman is LTC (Ret.) Brian Birdwell, a decorated veteran representing Texas Senate District 22.

The list of board members includes several notable figures such as:

- Texas Sen. Brian Birdwell

- Judge Ernest Aliseda

- Nick Breedlove

- Dr. James Broaddus

- Mayor David Bristol

These individuals bring diverse backgrounds from various branches of the U.S. armed forces.

Admissions decisions by the service academies are expected early next year.
