WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) addressed the Senate floor today, focusing on the transition to Republican leadership following recent elections. He highlighted the challenges he believes were faced under Democratic governance and expressed optimism for the upcoming administration.

Senator Cornyn criticized past policies, stating, "The last four years under Democratic leadership has been marked by reckless spending, failed border policies, and a weak and dangerous presence on the world stage." He emphasized the impact of these policies on his home state of Texas: "My state has had to deal with huge influxes of migrants for a long time."

Reflecting on historical implications, he remarked, "The history books will remember this presidency for the open border policies that have been simply devastating to our country." Cornyn asserted that voters opted for significant change: "The American people voted not only to turn the page but to write an entirely new chapter written by Republicans in the majority."

Acknowledging future tasks, he said, "No doubt we have a lot of work to do, but we also have a mandate from the American people who are sick and tired of failed leadership and ready for change." He expressed gratitude towards his constituents: "I look forward to being part of that change, and I’m grateful to the Texans who’ve continued to give me the opportunity to serve them at this pivotal time as we work out to get our country back on track."
