This week, a Congressional Gold Medal ceremony honored Katherine Johnson, Dr. Christine Darden, Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, and other women who contributed to NASA’s success during the Space Race. Their work as mathematicians, computers, and engineers was instrumental in advancing space exploration.
On the Senate floor this week, Democrats staged a vote that Republicans argue falsely claims opposition to in vitro fertilization (IVF). Senator Ted Cruz stated: "Not a single Senator in this body, Republican or Democrat, wants a ban on IVF." Cruz and Senator Katie Britt introduced legislation to safeguard access to IVF services nationwide. The bill aims to provide federal statutory protection for IVF without infringing on personal beliefs. However, Democrats blocked the effort.
Cruz commented: “The American people deserve straightforward pro-IVF legislation... Our bill does not engage in backdoor politics... it simply does what needs to be done.”
During a congressional hearing on antisemitism, Cruz's remarks were interrupted by protesters using antisemitic language. He pointed out the rise of antisemitism following the October 7th terrorist attacks in Israel and criticized the Biden-Harris administration for their lack of action.
Cruz remarked: “Antisemitism is a unique [and] historic form of evil... In the wake of October 7th... we have seen antisemitism explode across the United States and across the world... Throughout all of this, the Biden-Harris administration has been utterly absent.”
Cruz also criticized U.S. foreign policy under President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. He argued that their policies have emboldened adversaries like Iran, China, and Venezuela while weakening allies.
He stated: “The last four years under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris... pale in comparison to the disasters of foreign policy and national security... Every enemy in America right now is stronger... And the problem is Joe Biden and Kamala Harris."
Senator Cruz concluded his message with a commitment to continue fighting for Texas.
