The Governor's speech was part of his economic development trip to the UK, where he emphasized the shared values of freedom, democracy, and hard work between the two regions.

"President Ronald Reagan and Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher both shared a love for freedom and opportunity," Governor Abbott stated during his speech. He emphasized the importance of upholding these principles and working together to protect the prosperity and liberty of their citizens.

The Governor, accompanied by First Lady Abbott and other officials, visited various locations in London, including the former site of the Republic of Texas Embassy and BP international headquarters. At BP, Governor Abbott discussed ways to enhance energy trade and business investments in Texas, showcasing the state's position as a global energy leader.

Highlighting the significant economic ties between Texas and the UK, Governor Abbott noted that the UK leads all nations in foreign direct investment projects in Texas. The two regions have a robust trade relationship, with Texas being the top state for exports to the UK.

The Texas Economic Development Corporation sponsored the Governor's trip, underscoring its commitment to promoting Texas as a premier business location. Together with the Governor's Economic Development & Tourism Office, these organizations play a pivotal role in advancing Texas' economic development agenda.
