U.S. Senator John Cornyn has expressed approval following the announcement of a new direct flight route between San Antonio and Washington D.C.'s Ronald Reagan National Airport. This route will be serviced by American Airlines, which is based in Texas.
"As a San Antonio native and staunch advocate of Texas’ airline industry, I am pleased that the DOT has finalized a direct route between San Antonio and the District of Columbia," said Sen. Cornyn. "Serviced by DFW-based American Airlines, this new direct route will open up new opportunities for Texans in ‘Military City, USA’ and our nation’s capital, and I am pleased to see it come to fruition."
The establishment of this route follows Sen. Cornyn's support for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act passed earlier this year. The act included reforms aimed at improving public safety, efficiency, and consumer confidence within the aviation sector.
In July, Senator Cornyn collaborated with other Texas lawmakers including Senator Ted Cruz and Representatives Chip Roy and Joaquin Castro in urging Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg to allocate one of the new long-haul flights permitted under the FAA reauthorization to San Antonio International Airport.
The Department of Transportation confirmed plans for this direct flight route in October, finalizing its service through American Airlines.
