WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Alex Padilla (D-CA) today introduced the Isakson-Roe Education Oversight Expansion Act aimed at enhancing the oversight capabilities of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to protect veterans' access to quality education.
Sen. Cornyn emphasized the importance of the bill, stating, "Our veterans deserve to put their hard-earned education benefits toward degrees and certifications from trustworthy institutions." Meanwhile, Sen. Padilla echoed this sentiment, asserting, "Veterans should be able to access their hard-earned GI Bill benefits without fear of exploitation."
The proposed legislation seeks to address the challenges faced by veterans in accessing quality education by requiring VA-approved institutions to promptly report any adverse actions taken against them to the relevant authorities. This measure aims to prevent veterans from falling victim to deceptive practices or attending institutions at risk of losing accreditation.
Companion legislation has been introduced in the House of Representatives by Representatives Morgan McGarvey (KY-03) and Mike Levin (CA-49), demonstrating bipartisan support for safeguarding veterans' education benefits.
The Isakson-Roe Education Oversight Expansion Act is a proactive step towards ensuring that veterans can pursue their educational goals at reputable institutions without concerns about fraud or exploitation.
