Safety and connectivity improvements are planned for Bluff Springs Road from William Cannon Drive to the Austin city limits (8300 block of Bluff Springs Road). The Austin Transportation and Public Works Department (TPW) wants to hear your thoughts on the proposed changes. A survey and virtual open house are open through August 6.

TPW's Vision Zero team has identified this area as a high-crash corridor. This section of Bluff Springs Road is on the High-Injury Network (HIN), which identifies streets in Austin with a relatively high number of crashes resulting in serious injuries and deaths. The City of Austin uses this data as a planning tool to identify locations where engineering, education or enforcement interventions should be prioritized to have the most impact in improving safety. To view detailed statistics on the traffic crashes in this area, visit Vision Zero's crash data interactive map.

Planned improvements:

  • Intersection safety improvements at Blue Meadow Drive, Tranquilo Trail and Quicksilver Boulevard
  • Continuous protected bikeways along Bluff Springs Road from William Cannon Drive to the Travis County line
  • New pedestrian crossings with median refuge islands at Bitter Creek Drive, Boggy Creek Drive and Sunny Hills Drive
  • A new southbound bus stop near Bitter Creek Drive
  • An upgraded northbound bus stop near Bitter Creek Drive
  • Street lighting improvements from William Cannon Drive to Slaughter Lane
Construction is expected to begin in September 2023. If you live along Bluff Springs Road, your feedback is important. To learn more about the planned improvements, visit the project webpage.
