The U.S. Department of Justice recently awarded the Travis County Sheriff’s Office $102,045 from it’s Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Office for the improvement of delivery and access to mental health and wellness services for law enforcement.

The grant is to to be used to provide those services through training and technical assistance, demonstration projects, implementation of promising practices related to peer mentoring mental health and wellness, and suicide prevention programs, according to Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas).

“The men and women who proudly wear their badge and put their lives on the line every day must be equipped with the resources needed to effectively perform their mission serving our Travis County community,” Williams said. “I will always stand strong with law enforcement, and I’m pleased that DOJ’s award will aid in greater training and wellness programs to protect the health of our officers.”
