Governor Greg Abbott extended his congratulations to the City of Nacogdoches for being designated as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community. Travel Texas recognized Nacogdoches in the first year of the program for successfully completing the certification process. This designation highlights Visit Nacogdoches's efforts in using tourism as a strategy for economic growth, job creation, and attracting visitors both nationally and globally.

Governor Abbott said, "Tourism is critical to both our local and state economies, supporting one in 11 jobs across Texas. Travelers to and within Texas generate more than $193 billion in annual economic impact and support 1.3 million jobs across the state." He also encouraged other Texas communities to apply for the certification to enhance local tourism and job opportunities.

Representative Joanne Shofner expressed pride in serving Nacogdoches, describing it as "the oldest town in Texas and the Garden Capital of Texas," and noted that tourism plays a significant role in the local economy. Shofner thanked Governor Abbott for recognizing Nacogdoches as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community, attributing the achievement to the hospitality of residents and the efforts of the business community.

Nacogdoches Mayor Randy Johnson celebrated this recognition as a promise to continue sharing the town’s heritage and hospitality, stating, "This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our businesses, organizations, and citizens who make Nacogdoches a destination worth exploring."

City Manager Rick Beverlin and Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau Board Chair Alex Ranc also spoke about the significance of this recognition. Beverlin emphasized the city's commitment to welcoming visitors and supporting local businesses, while Ranc highlighted the city's appeal, with 1.5 million annual visitors and over $77 million in traveler spending, as a testament to its tourism appeal.

The program is available to local governments or non-profit organizations responsible for tourism promotion. Benefits include strengthening tourism relationships, educating leaders about tourism's importance, and identifying local strategies.

Travel Texas, part of the Governor's Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office, aims to market Texas as a premier travel destination, boosting non-Texan travel and contributing to the state’s economy and job market.
