Governor Greg Abbott took part in a fireside chat organized by the Texas Law Federalist Society at The University of Texas at Austin. During the event, he highlighted what he described as the state's successful policies in creating a robust economy, favorable business climate, and enhanced safety in Texas.
Governor Abbott stated, "We must use the law as both a sword and shield." He emphasized the importance of rapidly implementing policies, citing the establishment of a new court of appeals with expert judges to ensure the efficient operation of the government in business matters. "These new business courts are now a magnet for business enterprises coming to Texas," he added. He encouraged lawyers to engage actively in their roles to restore law and order in Texas and nationwide, asserting that their involvement is crucial.
The discussion was moderated by Jim Davis, interim President of UT Austin, and Jordan Lamb, President of the Texas Law Federalist Society. Governor Abbott discussed the Texas Fifteenth Court of Appeals, which aims to resolve complex commercial disputes swiftly.
Abbott also pointed to the Texas border security initiative, Operation Lone Star, as a successful countermeasure to what he termed as the Biden Administration’s reckless open border policies. He noted that Texas has deployed National Guard soldiers, installed buoys and razor wire, and constructed a border wall, actions he claims have reduced illegal crossings into the state by 85%.
