Governor Abbott appoints members to Texas State Board Of Public Accountancy

Governor Greg Abbott has announced appointments to the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. Kenneth Omoruyi has been appointed, while Grant Coates, Jill Holup, Jeannette Pierro Smith, and James “Jim” Trippon have been reappointed for terms ending on January 31, 2031. Additionally, Jeannette Pierro Smith has been named chair of the Board. The Board's role is to ensure certified public accountants meet required education and skill standards.

Kenneth Omoruyi from Bellaire is the managing partner at CKO CPAs and Advisors and an adjunct professor at Lone Star College. He serves on various committees within the Texas Society of CPAs and other organizations. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Benin and a Master of Science from the University of Southern California.

Grant Coates from Fort Worth is CEO and president of The Miles Foundation. His past roles include financial positions with Miles Production Company. Coates is involved with several local organizations such as Read Fort Worth and holds degrees in Business Administration from the University of North Texas and Texas Christian University.

Jill Holup from Austin serves as chief operating officer and chief financial officer at CenterGate Capital. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder and participates in multiple finance-related associations. Holup earned her business degrees from The University of Texas at El Paso and the University of California, Berkeley.

Jeannette Pierro Smith from Mission works as a partner at Carr, Riggs & Ingram, LLC. She holds various roles within accounting boards including AICPA's board of examiners. Her academic credentials include a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Houston.

James “Jim” Trippon from Houston is president of JM Trippon & Company and Trippon Wealth Management Group. He is also an author on personal finance topics. Trippon graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The appointments are pending Senate confirmation.
