Governor Greg Abbott has announced that Menard is now a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community. This designation comes from the Texas Music Office (TMO) after Menard completed a multi-step certification process. The program, which began in 2016, aims to encourage economic development and job creation through music in Texas communities.

"Congratulations to the City of Menard on earning the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation," stated Governor Abbott. He emphasized the importance of music to Texas's cultural identity and its role in fostering economic growth and job creation. "With support from the Texas Music Office, the Texas music industry accounts for 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates over $31.7 billion in annual economic activity statewide."

Senator Charles Perry expressed pride in representing Menard, noting its musical heritage and spirit. "This Music Friendly Texas certification is a resounding tribute to my constituents' talent and hard work," he said.

Mayor Barbara Hooten highlighted local events like the River Rat Concert and Spanish Colonial Historical Day as examples of Menard's vibrant musical culture. "The city is in the process of building an outdoor stage...to host even more music events," she added.

Cherry Swindall, Executive Director of the Menard Chamber of Commerce, spoke about the community's growing live music scene: "This certification lets artists and other communities alike know that we are serious about welcoming live music to our town."

Sarah Jannett Johanson from Artist Initiative of Menard also noted the area's rich history in music: "It is only natural that our community would seek a Music Friendly Texas certification at the state level."

The official certification ceremony will be held on March 6 at Club Victoria with city officials present. TMO Community Relations Specialist Gini Mascorro will present the designation.

Menard joins 75 other communities as a certified partner under this program by TMO, part of Governor Abbott’s Economic Development & Tourism Office since 1990.
