Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the City of Canyon has been designated as a Film Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Film Commission. This recognition follows Canyon's completion of a comprehensive training and certification process.

"Congratulations to Canyon on earning the Film Friendly Texas designation and joining more than 175 other Texas communities that have received this recognition," stated Governor Abbott. He highlighted that through this program, communities are equipped to connect local businesses with production-related needs, thereby creating jobs for Texas-based crew members and residents, while also boosting local business spending. Governor Abbott expressed gratitude towards the Texas Film Commission for its role in marketing community appeal and supporting job creation in media production.

Representative John Smithee shared his enthusiasm, stating, "We are delighted to see Canyon recognized as a Film Friendly Texas Certified Community. This opportunity will help create initiatives in our community and support local business."

Mayor Gary Hinders echoed these sentiments, expressing excitement about Canyon joining the program. Canyon now stands among over 175 communities across Texas receiving ongoing training from the Texas Film Commission on industry standards and best practices for accommodating on-location filming activities.

The Texas Film Commission has played a significant role in growing local jobs and economies for over five decades by promoting Texas as a prime destination for various forms of media production. Since 2007, it has attracted more than $2.5 billion in local spending and created over 189,000 production jobs statewide.
