The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has issued a reminder for football fans and drivers to exercise caution on the roads ahead of Super Bowl LIX, which will take place this weekend. As the Kansas City Chiefs face off against the Philadelphia Eagles on February 9, DPS is stepping up enforcement across the state to promote safety during the event.

DPS Colonel Freeman F. Martin emphasized the importance of responsible driving: “Getting behind the wheel when you’re impaired is never okay,” he stated. He urged those planning to watch the game with family and friends to include safe transportation in their plans. “Our Troopers will be out on the roads making sure people are following the laws, so we need you to also step up and make a responsible decision so everyone gets home safely—it’s the only way we all win.”

On Sunday, February 9, DPS Troopers will enhance patrols from 12:01 a.m. until midnight as part of the nationwide CARE (Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort) initiative. They will be monitoring for legal violations such as speeding, driving under the influence, and failure to wear seat belts.

Additionally, DPS reminds Texans about their program designed for reporting suspicious activity within communities to prevent potential threats. With large gatherings expected during events like these, vigilance is crucial. Tips can be submitted through a free mobile app or by calling 844-643-2251. All reports remain confidential.
