On January 24, 2025, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) spoke on the Senate floor regarding President Trump's recent actions against the Biden-Harris administration's DEI policies. Cornyn expressed approval of President Trump’s decision to dismantle these initiatives.

Cornyn remarked, “It’s been four days… since President Trump took the oath of office as the 47th President of the United States.” He praised Trump for taking steps to dismantle what he referred to as a "DEI regime" established by the previous administration.

The senator criticized DEI initiatives, claiming that they contradict American values. He stated, “DEI initiatives do the exact opposite of what they purport to do, and they fly directly in the face of everything that America stands for.”

Cornyn further elaborated on his view that such policies have led to new forms of discrimination. “The policies that were intended to end racial discrimination have evolved into the modern DEI apparatus, creating a new kind of discrimination,” he said.

He emphasized that Trump's actions should not be seen as a regression but rather a correction. According to Cornyn, “President Trump’s actions earlier this week are not a reversal of the progress we’ve made since the civil rights movement. They are better understood as the righting of the ship back to what Congress and the nation intended to accomplish.”

Concluding his remarks, Cornyn highlighted an ideal vision for America: “This action by President Trump... is a return to the ideal that the United States of America should have always stood for... which is that [of] equal dignity and equal treatment of every American under law.”
