Rep. Chip Roy, serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 21st district since 2019, has shared significant updates regarding federal actions against Mexican drug cartels through a series of tweets. Born in Bethesda, Maryland in 1972 and currently residing in Austin, Rep. Roy is an alumnus of the University of Virginia and the University of Texas-Austin.

On January 21, 2025, Rep. Chip Roy Press Office announced on Twitter that "HUGE NEWS: @POTUS has ordered the federal govt to designate Mexican drug cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs). A critical step to taking them down, re-establishing control of the border, and protecting our citizens".
