As the United States Senate began confirmation hearings this week, Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) has voiced strong support for three nominees from North Texas: John Ratcliffe, Scott Turner, and Brooke Rollins. In an op-ed published in the Dallas Morning News, Cornyn emphasized their qualifications and urged for their prompt confirmation.

Cornyn highlighted the recent election results where Texans supported President-elect Donald Trump and Republican majorities in Congress. He stated that it is crucial for the Senate to confirm Trump's selected team to implement his agenda effectively.

John Ratcliffe has been nominated to lead the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). He previously served as a Congressman representing Texas' 4th Congressional District and held roles such as mayor of Heath, Texas, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Texas, and director of National Intelligence during Trump's first administration. Cornyn praised Ratcliffe's dedication to national security and his defense of President Trump.

Scott Turner is nominated for secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Turner chairs the Center for Education Opportunity at the America First Policy Institute and was executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council under Trump. A former NFL player turned public servant, Turner's leadership in various community organizations was commended by Cornyn.

Brooke Rollins is nominated to lead the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Raised on a farm in Glen Rose, Texas, she graduated from Texas A&M’s School of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications. Rollins also served as general counsel for Gov. Rick Perry and directed domestic policy in Trump's first administration. Cornyn expressed confidence in her ability to represent Texan farmers effectively.

Cornyn criticized Senate Democrats for previous failures such as not passing a five-year Farm Bill while they were in majority control. He warned against attempts to obstruct these confirmations which he believes are vital for reversing policies from the Biden administration.

He concluded by stressing that Ratcliffe, Turner, and Rollins possess essential skills needed to address global threats while ensuring domestic resilience.
