U.S. Senator John Cornyn introduced Scott Turner, a nominee for the position of Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), at a confirmation hearing before the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. During his introduction, Cornyn highlighted Turner's qualifications and background.

Cornyn stated, “It’s a pleasure to be here today to introduce my friend and fellow Texan, Scott Turner, to be the next Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and thank you for allowing me the honor of just saying a few words.”

He emphasized Turner's deep roots in Texas by noting that “Scott is a fourth-generation Texan. That’s a big deal in Texas.” Cornyn also praised Turner's leadership qualities and public service record: “He’s an accomplished leader and dedicated public servant. He was elected to the statehouse in Texas in 2012, and he went on to serve at the White House under President Trump as Executive Director of the Opportunity and Revitalization Council."

The council was created by former President Trump in 2018 with the goal of implementing bipartisan opportunity zones aimed at promoting investment in areas needing revitalization.

Turner has been active within his community as well. According to Cornyn, “He’s also an active member in his community. Scott founded a nonprofit called the Community Engagement and Opportunity Council to support impoverished children.” Additionally, Turner served as an associate pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas.

Currently serving as Chair of the Center for Education Opportunity for the America First Policy Institute, Turner is recognized for his business acumen and government experience during Trump's administration. Cornyn remarked that these attributes make him "eminently qualified" for leading HUD.

Cornyn concluded by expressing strong support for Turner's nomination: “It is my honor to support his nomination,” urging committee members to expedite their vote so Turner can begin his work if confirmed.
