Today on Fox News' program The Faulkner Focus, U.S. Senator John Cornyn discussed the Republican Party's strategy to collaborate with the incoming Trump administration. The focus is on controlling government spending and reviving the economy. Cornyn, a founding member of the Senate DOGE Caucus, also talked about his meeting with Pam Bondi, who has been nominated by President-Elect Trump for the position of U.S. Attorney General.

Cornyn emphasized the need for change in economic policy: "We all know this is a change election." He highlighted public dissatisfaction with current economic trends, stating, "The American people felt like the country was heading in the wrong direction," citing inflation and national debt as major concerns.

He pointed out that federal responsibilities have expanded due to its taxing power and expressed concern over defense spending compared to interest payments on national debt: "In a very dangerous world... we are now spending more money on interest on the national debt than we are on defense."

Regarding his role in the Senate DOGE Caucus, Cornyn mentioned efforts to bring attention to important issues alongside figures like Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy: "Raising the visibility of this issue... will give us an opportunity to try to find some consensus." He stressed urgency in prioritizing impactful decisions: "This is a small window of opportunity now."

Cornyn criticized Congress for delaying difficult financial decisions but expressed optimism about current opportunities: "I’m really excited about the opportunity we have now."

On his meeting with Attorney General nominee Pam Bondi, Cornyn shared their mutual goal of depoliticizing key institutions: "We both share a desire to restore [the] most fundamental institutions like the Department of Justice and FBI into nonpolitical entities." He affirmed Bondi's commitment and pledged support for her mission.
