As the Texas Legislature gathers for public hearings in its fourth special session, Common Cause Texas has published a report titled "ALEC-tioneering: Unmasking Money & Influence in Texas Politics." The report aims to expose the significant influence of wealth on Texas politics and the state legislature's agenda in 2023. It addresses issues such as public education, immigration policy, and the accountability of politicians through impeachment.

Katya Ehresman, Common Cause Texas voting rights program manager, commented on the findings: "Our report shows that on major issues of the day, our legislators are voting in the interest of their campaign donors rather than the people of Texas." She emphasized that alternatives have been available for over a decade to sever these connections. Ehresman urged the Governor and state lawmakers to end pay-to-play politics and amplify the voices of ordinary Texans in public discussions.

The report concludes with four proposed reforms aimed at reducing corporate and donor influence in Texas politics.
