Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Director Steven C. McCraw was honored at his final Public Safety Commission (PSC) meeting before retirement. The meeting, held at DPS headquarters in Austin, saw the PSC adopt a resolution to name the department’s new training facility as the Steven C. McCraw Law Enforcement Academy and Training Center.
Chairman Steven P. Mach stated, “In the last 15 years of his career, Steven McCraw has made an extraordinary and everlasting impact on the Texas Department of Public Safety.” He added that naming the facility in McCraw's honor would inspire future recruits.
The new academy, funded by the 88th Texas Legislature, will train Texas Highway Patrol Trooper recruits and other law enforcement partners. Construction is set to begin this winter with Phase 1 including dormitories for up to 560 recruits, classrooms, a cafeteria, and fitness facilities.
Proclamations from Governor Greg Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick were presented to McCraw in recognition of his leadership over 15 years. Additionally, he was named an honorary Texas Ranger Captain by the Texas Ranger Division.
The Texas State Troopers Association awarded McCraw “The Blue Shield” award for his commitment to public service.
