Governor Greg Abbott has revealed that the Texas Music Office (TMO), in collaboration with the City of Killeen and Visit Killeen, will be hosting a Music Friendly Texas Community workshop on Wednesday, May 1. The workshop aims to promote music industry development and economic growth within Texas communities.

Expressing the significance of music in Texas, Governor Abbott stated, "Music is key to the Texas brand and to our local economies." He extended his gratitude to the Texas Music Office for assisting communities in fostering creative partnerships and job creation.

Highlighting the substantial impact of the music industry in Texas, Governor Abbott shared that "the Texas music industry accounted for more than 192,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generated more than $26 billion in economic activity statewide in 2022."

The workshop will feature TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist Chip Adams, who will elaborate on the Music Friendly Texas Community designation and the benefits of becoming certified. The event will also provide an opportunity for participants to ask questions and engage in discussions regarding the certification process.

Participation in the Music Friendly Texas program offers Texas communities a platform to nurture music industry growth and demonstrates a commitment to attracting industry professionals. The Killeen workshop marks the initial phase in the certification process, with Killeen poised to join the ranks of 59 other Texas cities that have attained the Music Friendly Texas designation.

Musicians, venues, and the general public are encouraged to participate in the workshop either in person at the Killeen Civic & Conference Center or online via the provided link. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 1, at 6:00 PM in the Yellow Rose Room of the Killeen Civic & Conference Center.
