U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) commended Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's recent address to a joint session of Congress where he emphasized the strategic significance of the U.S.-Japan alliance. Sen. Cruz highlighted the importance of the alliance, stating, “The U.S.-Japan alliance is the cornerstone of U.S. security interests in the Indo-Pacific." He further emphasized the critical role of Japan's friendship and alliance in advancing global interests, countering threats from China and North Korea, and maintaining peace and security in the Pacific region and beyond.

Sen. Cruz also acknowledged the 60th anniversary of the defense training partnership between the U.S. and Japan, which involves training Japanese Self-Defense Forces at Fort Bliss, Texas, on missile defense systems. He expressed pride in hosting U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Michael Radford, who plays a key role in training Japanese allies at Fort Bliss. Sen. Cruz recognized Radford's efforts, stating, “Thanks to his efforts, and those of other patriotic Americans, we are able to ensure that both the U.S. Army and Japanese forces are ready and able to meet any threat that might arise.”

During the joint session, Mr. Radford, who has been decorated with numerous military honors, was present as Sen. Cruz's guest. His commendable service and dedication to training Japanese Self-Defense Forces at Fort Bliss demonstrate his significant contributions to the U.S. Army and national defense.

In a video featuring Sen. Cruz and Mr. Radford discussing the U.S.-Japanese relationship, the importance of the partnership and ongoing cooperation between the two countries was underscored.

The background information reveals Sen. Cruz's previous engagement with Japan, including a visit in 2019 as part of an Indo-Pacific tour where he met with then-Japanese Prime Minister Shinz? Abe and Defense Minister Taro Kono in Tokyo.

The recognition and appreciation expressed by Sen. Cruz towards Prime Minister Kishida's speech and the U.S.-Japan alliance highlights the enduring bond and collaborative efforts between the two nations in ensuring regional security and stability.
