WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has taken action to address the aftermath of the devastating wildfires that recently swept through the Texas panhandle. Sen. Cruz introduced two amendments aimed at enhancing wildfire relief efforts in Texas and Oklahoma as part of the Senate's current spending package.

In a statement, Sen. Cruz expressed his commitment to supporting the communities affected by the 2024 wildfires, saying, "I will continue working to provide the Panhandle with the necessary support to recover from the devastation of these wildfires."

The senator recounted his firsthand experiences visiting the impacted areas, stating, "While the fires were burning, I went down to Fritch and Borger to meet with local officials and Texan families who had lost everything. I met with Chief Zeb Smith—a hero—who we tragically lost in a fire the next day."

Additionally, Sen. Cruz highlighted the importance of standing in solidarity with those who have suffered losses, including homeowners and ranchers. He emphasized the need for ongoing assistance to aid in the recovery and rebuilding process in the wake of the historic disaster.

Sen. Cruz's efforts come in the wake of his recent remarks on the Senate floor regarding the wildfires in the Texas Panhandle and in honor of Fritch Volunteer Fire Chief Zeb Smith. Alongside Sen. John Cornyn, Sen. Cruz also showed support for Governor Abbott's request for preliminary damage assessments by the U.S. Small Business Administration in wildfire-impacted communities to determine eligibility for further federal disaster assistance.

The senator's proactive measures underscore a commitment to providing vital support and resources to assist individuals and communities in Texas and Oklahoma as they work towards recovery from the destructive wildfires.
