U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz and Mazie Hirono have joined forces to introduce the bipartisan Federal Judiciary Stabilization Act, aimed at transitioning ten temporary federal judgeships to permanent status. This move is intended to ensure continued access to the federal court system for millions of Americans nationwide.

Senator Cruz emphasized the importance of the legislation, stating, “This bipartisan legislation will prevent the loss of judgeships that the American taxpayer has come to rely on, and will stabilize the structure of the federal judiciary. This will strengthen the rule of law and reinforce the independence of federal judges.”

Echoing Senator Cruz's sentiments, Senator Hirono highlighted the significance of the bill in providing stability to federal courts, saying, “By making several long-standing temporary judgeships permanent, this bill will help provide certainty and stability to federal courts in Hawaii and other states across the country.”

On the House side, Representatives Lance Gooden and Ted Lieu introduced a companion bill, emphasizing the importance of maintaining efficiency within the federal court system. Representative Gooden stated, “The Federal Judiciary Stabilization Act will ensure our federal courts remain efficient. This bipartisan effort underscores our commitment to upholding the rule of law and the independence of our federal courts for all Americans.”

Similarly, Representative Lieu expressed his support for the bill, noting, “By making the existing federal judgeships permanent, our bill provides greater stability for judgeships in California and other states.”

The Federal Judiciary Stabilization Act aims to grant permanent status to all ten currently-existing temporary federal district court judgeships, including courts in various states such as Texas, Hawaii, California, and North Carolina.

A bipartisan group of senators and representatives have cosponsored the bill, showing a united front in supporting the initiative to maintain access to the federal court system for individuals across the nation.
