Governor Abbott Appoints Four To Texas Commission On Law Enforcement

Governor Greg Abbott has made appointments to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) to ensure that the people of Texas are served by highly trained and ethical law enforcement personnel. The appointees include Conor Harvey, Justin West, Janna Atkins, and Justin Berry.

Conor Harvey, an attorney at Murphy Ball Stratton LLP in Houston, has been appointed to the Commission. He brings expertise in civil and white collar litigation and appeals. Harvey is a member of the State Bar of Texas and has clerked for Justice Jimmy Blacklock of the Supreme Court of Texas. He received his Bachelor of Public Administration from The University of Texas at San Antonio and his Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago Law School.

Justin West, the constable of Precinct 4 in Galveston County, has also been appointed. He is a member of the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT) and the National Constables and Marshals Association. West has a degree in Information Technology and Security from Western Governors University.

Janna Atkins, the criminal justice manager and training coordinator for the West Central Texas Regional Law Enforcement Academy, has been reappointed to the Commission. With 38 years of experience as a Texas peace officer, Atkins has extensive knowledge in law enforcement training. She is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and has served on various committees and boards related to law enforcement and community organizations.

Justin Berry, a senior police officer for the Austin Police Department, has been appointed to the Commission as well. With over 16 years of experience, Berry holds a Texas Master Peace Officer License and has received numerous awards and commendations for his service. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice Leadership and Management from Sam Houston State University.

These appointments will contribute to the Commission's efforts to establish and enforce standards that ensure the highest level of professionalism and integrity in the Texas law enforcement community.
