Today, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) voiced his strong criticism of the Biden administration for its failure to monitor the well-being of migrant children placed with sponsors. Senator Cornyn expressed concern that many of these children may be subjected to labor trafficking. He accused the administration of outsourcing immigration policy to criminal cartels, allowing them to profit from smuggling people and drugs into the United States.
Senator Cornyn highlighted the devastating consequences of this negligence, stating, "The casualties associated with that – the grieving parents losing their children to fentanyl poisoning – are well documented." He emphasized that the impact of this issue is real and cannot be ignored.
Citing his own figures, Senator Cornyn revealed that 300,000 unaccompanied children had been placed with sponsors during the Biden administration. He also referenced an article from The New York Times, which reported that in 85,000 cases, there was no answer when a call was made 30 days after the child was placed with a sponsor. This lack of communication and oversight raises serious concerns about the welfare of these vulnerable children.
Senator Cornyn expressed frustration at the administration's inability to provide essential information about the children's well-being. He stated, "You can’t tell us whether the child is being sex trafficked into forced labor, whether they’re going to school, whether they’re getting health care. You can’t tell us whether they’re being neglected or otherwise abused." He further criticized the Biden administration, asserting that their lack of action indicates a lack of care for these children's welfare.
The senator's strong condemnation of the Biden administration's handling of the migrant child abuse scandal highlights the urgent need for increased oversight and accountability. The well-being and safety of these children should be a top priority, and immediate action must be taken to address the shortcomings in the current system.
