Governor Greg Abbott and First Lady Cecilia Abbott of Texas have called upon their fellow Texans to celebrate the historic achievements and contributions of Hispanic Americans as Hispanic Heritage Month draws to a close. They urged all Texans to reflect on the rich history, culture, and positive impact of Hispanic Texans in communities across the state.

Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of honoring Hispanic traditions, stating, "Hispanic traditions are Texas traditions, and the Hispanic community’s experiences have helped shape the Texas legend." He acknowledged the significant role played by the Hispanic population in Texas, which has become the largest demographic group in the state. Governor Abbott highlighted the vibrant nature of the Hispanic community, stating that it is "brimming with our state’s promise of opportunity, prosperity, and hope." He expressed optimism about the future success of Texas, emphasizing the importance of unity and shared values.

First Lady Abbott echoed these sentiments, stating, "This past month, we honored Hispanic heritage, but in Texas we honor it every single day." She recognized the contributions of Hispanic Texans in various fields, including business, education, healthcare, and government. She emphasized that the Hispanic community is an integral part of the Texan family.

The Hispanic population in Texas reached 12 million last year, making it the largest demographic group in the state and a driving force of population growth. Hispanic Texans also play a crucial role in the state's economy, with Hispanic business owners employing nearly 700,000 Texans. Texas is home to one in five of the nation's Hispanic business owners and is a leader in job creation by Hispanic women business owners.

Governor Abbott had previously proclaimed the period from September 15 to October 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month in Texas. The proclamation aimed to recognize and celebrate the contributions and achievements of Hispanic Americans throughout history.

As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to an end, Governor Abbott and First Lady Abbott's call to reflect on Hispanic contributions serves as a reminder of the diverse and vibrant tapestry that makes up the state of Texas. The celebration of Hispanic heritage is not limited to a single month but is an ongoing recognition of the valuable contributions of Hispanic Texans to the state and the nation.
